Minty

Tag: Blogger PostsJohn @ 8:06 pm

Here’s some helpful advice to remember: if someone hits you with “Junior Mints,” take your coat off before throwing some back and definately check your shoulders before putting your bookbag on. Why? Because you might have one magically stick to your shoulder underneath your coat which will get crushed into your shirt and the inside of your coat. The result is a friend asking you “What the hell is that?!” when you take off your coat, and you look only to find a minty smelling piece of crud on your shoulder. Payback’s a bitch… We’re going out to BW3’s now, so I gotta cut this short. Be back later.
Mmm… minty fresh

Bleh

I actually went to all of my classes today, so I don’t feel much like writing. (255 doesn’t count as I don’t consider it a class…my friend doesn’t even get credit for it.) I’ve decided that there’s a little bit of good in this quarter and a whole lot of crap with it. The good part is that all these CEG courses have reaffirmed my choice of CS over CEG as a major. The bad part is that I still have to take these classes. Worse still, this database crap in 405 isn’t helping matters. Least motivation ever.It wasn’t even worth the trouble.

Can’t believe I forgot to mention this: CEG 260 lab still sucks. 150 minutes and I still have next week’s prelab to do because we haven’t gone over stuff for it in class. That’s all I have to say.
I understand mux and demux now, tho

Hurry up, Santa!

Tag: Blogger PostsJohn @ 11:40 pm

I haven’t been this anxious for Christmas to come in a long time. It’s not so much the excitement of getting presents that’s getting to me, but the fact that so many good christmas gifts could be more useful now. The Dennis Northcutt jersey I want, for example, won’t be as cool when the season’s almost over. (As much as I’m hoping they will make the playoffs, the Browns haven’t shown me that it’s that likely.) Gifts that I want to give would also get more use now. I also need a break from this grind. It’s really dragging me down. I’m really lucky none of my classrooms have windows because I won’t learn anything once I see snowflakes falling.
Good news is, Mario Party 4 should help tide me over for a while. Well, until Tony Hawk 4, Metroid Prime, etc. come out. The winter games are on the way, and I want a bunch of them. I don’t have much to say about the fourth installment in this popular series except that it’s awesome. More of the same if you’ve played any of the previous ones. Again they have a bunch of new mini games that build on the games from previous releases. No big surprises, you have 2 on 2, 1 on 3, royale, etc. The new games also tend to be new twists on the same premises. Remember the cookie cutter one? Well, now there’s a game where you follow a line with a crayon. Same basic deal. Sure, this can be construed as a lack of creativity, but that’s a good thing. I want the games to be very similar and easy to learn. It makes finding a bunch of people to play with much easier. What game? Mario Party 4? Oh, I know MP2… this is the same thing? Cool. I have friends that don’t play games much but they’ll play the Mario Party series because experience doesn’t mean as much. I don’t want a game where people play with me for a while and then quit or don’t play again because they’re frustrated. There’s even more features that make the game more even for novices. You can play on teams for a whole game (1 on 3, 2 on 2) and there are handicaps. I’ve only played one game so far, and it was a *cough*short*cough* one at ten rounds, but here’s what I don’t like so far. Games are still long. A ten round game still took an hour. It saves after each round, but I don’t know if that will fix it. I guess I should check out just playing mini-games for quickies or something. The other complaint is that they made mushrooms worthless. What good does having two or three blocks do if you skip everything when you use them? One new feature that rocks, though is the new warping system. The old method of randomly switching with someone could potentially hurt both players involved and made the warp block a generally worthless item unless you liked pissing everyone off and still wind up losing. Getting to choose to whom you warp and leaving him/her the hell alone is much better.
Yoshi rules again, 3 stars ahead of the pack!!

Good guys by 3

Tag: Blogger PostsJohn @ 10:42 pm

Quick thoughts on the game: Awesome comeback, but I’m disappointed that it took an 18 point for the Jets to force us to play to our strengths. When you can’t run against the second worst run defense, it’s time to realize you can’t run. It was amazing that so many playaction fakes worked to some extent. They shouldn’t have worried about us running at all. Here are my gameballs and goats. Wish I could hand out more gameballs but they wouldn’t mean as much then.
gameballs:
Tim Couch: 300+ yards…wow. It’s depressing to think how good he could be if we could run.
Dennis Northcutt: I just got two questions: 1. When will they sell 86 jerseys? 2. When will Dennis get to start? When lord, when is it gonna be his turn?
2nd half defense: Came up with some huge turnovers, but I have misgivings… The completely different team we saw after halftime shut the Jets out, but they didn’t really shut the Jets down. I was really nervous at times, especially when a penalty overturning our interception looked to set up another freak catastrophe for the good guys. In fact, if this D doesn’t step it up a notch or two against the Steelers, I’m taking this gameball away.
Campbell: I had to make an extra gameball for this guy. At first, I was gonna leave off the D, but I couldn’t have all the gameballs going to the offense. He played a hell of a game though, so here we are. In fact, if I have to take the D’s ball away, half of it goes to this guy and the other half to my boy Northcutt
goats:
The first half imposters: who were these guys and why were they wearing the browns’ uniforms?
groundskeepers,et. al: inexcusable…should have used another field.
Third goat this week goes to the Squeelers, but I reserve the right to use it next week if necessary.

It…it has to dial-up?

Tag: Blogger PostsJohn @ 12:01 am

Sorry about the lack of updates. I went home for the weekend, and I try not to touch computers without a broadband connection anymore. Lots of info to put up, here we go:
Friday I got up, got my shit together, and headed home. Ninety minutes later I arrive to an empty house. A cold and empty house. I thought the house in Dayton was bad, but at least we have the heat turned on. I know my mom gets hot easily, but it was fifty-some degrees in the house. Dad started a fire rather than turn on the heat… what’s up with that?
Anyway, keeping my coat on I unpacked my stuff and headed to Meyer’s to get my car serviced. Dad and I went around doing errands for about two hours, and when we got home, Meyer’s called with further proof that I’ve killed too many brain cells. So I made a quick run back to sheepishly give them the keys to my car. Whatever’s wrong with me, I blame it on Lucas… and my cat.
The weekend wasn’t particularly exciting… heck, I rarely left the house. That’s ok, though because I didn’t really need excitement. I needed rest, and I really enjoyed not having to do anything. I would have watched TV, but it sucked. We don’t get cable, either, so it was a limited variety of suckiness. This leaves us with renting movies as our only source of entertainment. This lead to me discovering that movies that are out to rent suck lately. The only rental store in town, Movie Gallery, sucks too. Here’s my line of thought Friday and Saturday night: Super Troopers would be a good movie for dad, Jim, and I… it’s pretty popular, there should be quite a few copies, le’sse …where is it??? Ah, there– only 3 copies? all gone?? Shit, well let’s look over the rest. Hmm, Mr. Deeds and Windtalkers are the only ones that have more than 5 copies, all out. Everything else is old, crap, or both… Saturday afternoon: damn! I thought they said Super Troopers was due back last night! Bastards!! Wait, she just put a copy of Windtalkers back! Sw33t! Hmm, I need a comedy… Mr. Deeds is supposed to be a comedy, I guess. 7 $(*#ing dollars and 47 cents?? I guess they’re passing the expense from the lawsuit against them on to their customers. I should check out that lawsuit thing they got against them. It could explain a lot.
Onto the highlight of the weekend: football. Ottawa-Glandorf put another tally in the win column on friday to finish at 9-1 and share the WBL crown. Notre Dame posted an impressive win over Florida State, and Ohio State held on to beat Penn State on Saturday. What to say about today’s game…I have never been so depressed by a first half performance and then jump for joy so much in the second. I’ve already gone on too long tonight, so I’ll have my gameballs and goats up tomorrow in an update.
ahh, DSL…makes me feel all fuzzy inside

Moronville: Population Me

Tag: Blogger PostsJohn @ 9:32 pm

Let’s start with the good news. I found my cell phone!! WOOT! Alright, now on to why I reside in the fictional town mentioned above. The cell phone was in my car. I’d glanced in it the past few days, but didn’t give it much consideration for two reasons. 1. I am a certifiable moron. 2. See reason one. Need I say more? Ow! Sorry, literally kicking myself for 30 straight minutes leaves a bit of a bruise. I’ll just abuse myself verbally now. I have figured out what happened now, finally putting the pieces together. We finished up, and I packed up my things, putting my cell phone in my bookbag, which won’t stay fully closed when I have a bunch of crap in it and it’s on my back. Sometime after putting my bookbag in my car it fell out and became wedged between the passenger side back door and the seat, falling out when I opened said door tonight. I have it again, though so I’m somewhat happy.

More proof of my residence in Moronville (as if any more was needed) came earlier today when I missed CS 405 to work on our 460 project and forgot to turn in my homework. Something is wrong with me, I swear. Maybe taking 19 credit hours is starting to get to me. I’ve never needed a weekend more, that’s one thing I know for sure, but then again, I’m a moron.
at least my mom still loves me…right mom?
