All About The Benjamins

Tag: GeneralJohn @ 4:40 pm

Woo! (I’m using that word a lot in my posts lately…) Got my second raise at ball today! I’m working my way up to benjamins at least. I’m about $87 short of earning full benjamins per hour, but every little raise helps.

Worse than hanging chads

Jason made a post about evoting machines in Ohio today. I think i’ts worth checking out. I’d do the trackback thing, but something’s wrong with my bookmarklet. :(

If you’re too lazy to check out his post, here are the links of interest:
http://action.eff.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=2885
http://www.eff.org

I highly recommend following the first link and filling out the form that will send a letter to your representative saying that you do not want e-voting machines that cannot be audited.

Return of Attendance Nazis

Tag: Stuff That Grinds My GearsJohn @ 1:07 pm

Gah! Another professor who hates class-skipping punks like myself. At least Dung doesn’t punish absence. He more or less rewards attendance rather than taking points off for missing a class. I’ll go every day until the first exam. If I get a 95% on that and thus still have a shot at not needing to take the final, I’ll keep going. If not, skipping his class will give me time to go apartment hunting. ^__^

Attendance Nazis

Why do I always find the professors who have issues with students skipping class? My management professor has a policy of deducting 10 points (out of 400 possible) for each absence starting with the third one. Way to kill my buzz from OG winning State, professor douchebag.
I’m not too keen on the rest of his syllabus either. Lots of writing, with a fourth of my grade based on a stupid project interviewing and shadowing a manager. He even assigned something for this wednesday, the bastard! At least it’s only a retarded “2 page autobiography” that isn’t worth any points. Still, WTF? And where is Jim when you need him to help you come up with some bs?

Um, no problems with my Visual Basic class though. I came in with only 30 minutes of class left and prof didn’t bat an eye if he even noticed me. Extremely slow, boring, tedious are all apt to describe the prof, but those are all trumped by the class being so easy. ^___^ With help from Chris, I shouldn’t have to lift a finger at all in that class.

The Pollitzes Went to Columbus…

Tag: FamilyJohn @ 11:55 pm

and brought OGHS a state championship over the weekend with victories over Dover (61-60) and Canal Fulton NW (75-42). WOOOO!! Way to go Titans!! The only sad part is we don’t have two. If it weren’t for James & Akron, we would have won last year too!! It’s been a long time coming, so enjoy it!! WOOOO!! First Boys Basketball championship in the WBL!!

Hometown Hoops

Heading down to C-bus tonight… by way of Ottawa. Yeah, goin’ to watch the Titans do some damage to Dover’s Tornados. Woo!

In other news, my grades are in for the quarter. A’s in Soc and Software Engineering, B’s in everything else. I knew I could get an A in soc if I didn’t try. Turns out I couldn’t do the same in Accounting, Marketing, or Cryptology. :( Not like I would have put forth more effort if I had known that ahead of time though. :P

Hearts Aplenty

Tag: GeneralJohn @ 1:27 pm

Joined the card players at work for a round of hearts today. 8 player hearts confuses the hell out of me, heck any card game with two decks is extremely confusing, but this variation we played today where laying the same card as someone else cancels them both out takes the cake. “Ah, there’s the ace. I’m safe to lay this Queen,” I think. Then someone lays the same ace from the other deck, canceling it. Bam! Stuck with a bunch of cards. So your strategy for the most part becomes akin to a game of go fish. You attempt to match something that’s already been laid if possible. Any time you are able to match someone else’s card you know you are safe. No points. It’s not as much fun as regular hearts, partly because it makes leading a card much more dangerous. And while I won, it doesn’t feel like much of an accomplishment because there wasn’t much strategy. 2 four player games would be much better I think.
