The Strangerhood

Tag: Amusing LinksJohn @ 9:37 pm

The fine folks that brought you Red vs. Blue are starting a new mechanime thingy called The StrangerHood. Instead of using the Halo engine, this new series is based on The Sims 2 game. Not much there yet, but I trust these guys to make something hilarious out of it despite the radically different –and in my opinion sucktastic– game it’s based on.

Massively MultiTopical Readerless Pointless Generic Update

Tag: GeneralJohn @ 8:29 pm

First off, I’m sorry for all but abandoning this blog. In my defense, Jim’s been distracting me with impromptu house soccer matches. And I’m lazy. I should make Jim post this update as I’ve practically dragged him everywhere but work the past few weeks, but he’s lazier still.

Anyway, on to what’s been going on in John’s world. First, t3h diet. Yeah, fell off that wagon, but I’ve kept off what I lost so I haven’t lost any ground. Still hovering around 205, and I’m ok with that. (Because I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.)

Work has become really interesting with lots of challenging code to write. I’ve had to test a tool almost every week for the past month though. That hasn’t been interesting or challenging. Just a mind-numbing chore. Gots to be done, though, I guess, and I’m the low man on the totem pole so to speak. What’s worse still is our standards compliance auditor is leaving Ball so we have to start doing out own audits. Pouring over thousands of lines of code for deviations is much worse than testing. >_< On second thought, f*ck work!

Tonefest was this past weekend and it was awesome, even though some people didn’t show. The morning after Tonefest was not so great. Flip cup, beer pong, darts, polish horseshoes, and left hand tornados, it was all good.

Whew… that’s it. Alright, back to indoor soccer.

Upgraded

Tag: GeneralJohn @ 10:23 pm

Well, IT looked at my PC today and decided to hook me up with a new PC. So I went from a 1700+ XP to a 2800+ XP. We should start some after work fragging so that new processor gets put to good use. :)

The CPU is on Fire

Tag: Tech TalkJohn @ 4:05 pm

Man, I just have terrible luck with CPU fans. My computer at work is burning up due to another cpu fan dying on me. Looking on the bright side, with any luck, my cpu will burn up and I’ll get an upgrade from this ancient 1700+ XP.

Roadtrip to… Ottawa?

Tag: GeneralJohn @ 11:28 pm

Went back to Ottawa this weekend to get some things Jim had forgotten to bring with him when he moved in, as well as a video game which Ben had borrowed and I wanted to trade in. Turns out mom hasn’t turned our room into a closet for herself yet, which was a pleasant surprise.

Plenty of poker and video game fun. We also cooked chili, hot dogs, and smores over an open fire on Saturday. That’s about it though. Weekends need to be longer. :(

QB != Web Designer

Fark is good for amusing links. Everyone who remembers writing shitty web pages for a low level engineering class, raise their hands. *raises hand* Byron Leftwich raises his too.

Long Road to Stability

Tag: Stuff That Grinds My GearsJohn @ 11:42 pm

I definitely need to get ghost. This long process of wiping partitions and reinstalling and reconfiguring is for the birds. The suckage is really bad when you get stuff almost done and your stupid tv tuner card is buggy. Then you realize windows decided to make one partition a system partition so you have a 40GB partition you can’t resize or wipe clean or do much of anything with. And in trying to fix that, you lose your printer driver somehow and windows can’t see it. And this is probably linked to the fact that windows somehow forgot it had been updated to SP2 but still remembers the settings you had for it eariler. F*ck you Bill and your damn windows!!
