New Digs

Tag: Exhausted, GeneralJohn @ 2:50 pm

Well it’s not all roses and sunshine but we’re pretty much moved into my new condo. Monday was pretty much the busiest day of my life. First there was the walkthrough where Dad found all kinds of flaws in the drywall, molding, and general craftsmanship, as well as improvements that needed to be made (insulating the exterior wall of the garage, installing a water softener, etc. ). I expect I’ll be working with him on all sorts of improvement projects on several weekends this summer. Then we went shopping for a fridge (which I had mistakenly thought I had picked as an option from Ryan homes) a microwave and grout sealer (I would have thought that was something they could have done as part of putting the tile in.>:( ). Then we flew to the title agency to sign my life away. (Thanks for the directions, Luda!) Got some lunch, picked up my uncle’s truck and started hauling stuff over to the condo. I think I doubled the amount of stuff I had to move since I moved in two years ago. Maybe triple even which should be expected I guess as I more than trebled my disposable income around that time. (And now I’ve shrunk it. Hello huge mortgage!) Thanks to the help of Uncle Dave and his truck we got most of the big stuff moved (which meant Taryn’s muscles somewhat went to waste) as well as nearly all the smaller things (small, but important stuff like technology. Thanks again, Luda!) Then we fit in a family viewing of Hell’s Kitchen. I finally did some more cleaning and moving of smaller things at the apartment and sealed the grout in my bathroom before I collapsed in my new master bedroom.

So I get to finish cleaning a bunch of stuff tonight and tomorrow and then I’m done with Emerald Lakes. (Which has definitely gone downhill in the past two years I think. Either that or I’m just sick of living there and way past ready for an upgrade. ) Lots of unpacking and arranging to do. More importantly though, I need to do quite a bit of work on the decor. I need a couch, loveseat, blinds, rugs, some lamps, dining room table (eventually), and other miscellaneous items. Of upmost importance, however, is getting internet and television. But that goes without saying.

You know, I always wondered about that too.

Under 25 by 25

Tag: dietJohn @ 6:12 pm

I hit another of my weight loss goals today. I’m down to a nice even 190 pounds. So now it’s time for a new goal. I want to reduce my bmi to under 25, as 25 kg/square meter is now the standard low bar for being overweight (whether it’s a good standard or not is questionable) and losing that much weight before my 25th birthday should be feasible based on the results I have so far.

BMI Graph

As you can see, to get my bmi down to that level (it’s 27.3 right now) I need to either lose sixteen pounds or grow three inches taller. While it would be sweet if the latter happened, I’m going to try to lose the weight and if I hit an extremely late growth spurt I’ll consider it a bonus.

Are you too stupid to cheat?

Boingboing linked a good blog post giving advice to students who plagiarize…badly. I’m often depressed by the depths to which college education has sunk, but this provides a few laughs while reminding me how stupid some college kids are.

not even cheating at a high school level, let alone college

8 Bit Convergence

NES Controller Phone

I was just looking at some new cell phones last night as I’m due for a replacement in a couple months. If samsung or whoever made a phone like this and had functions for the d-pad and other buttons I’d definitely get it. Despite the slightly large size. They should definitely package it with some sweet 8-bit ringtones as well.

Look! Monkeys! I’m definitely intrigued by the concept of monkeyspheres.

Still Making Progress

Tag: dietJohn @ 11:17 am

It’s not two pounds per week or anything anymore but I’m back to making steady progress on my diet. The scale stands at 191 now, meaning I’m about 20 pounds away from my ideal weight. Another three months of this loom before me. :( I think I need a vacation from my diet.

In more exciting news (which you’ve probably already heard about) my condo’s getting ever closer to being finished. Just two weeks left!  The driveway is done, the trim is up, there are doors, the tile is all done (including in the shower!), the cabinets are in place, the dishwasher is there, and there are even some light fixtures in place. The painting might even be done by now. I hope to take more pictures this weekend.
