Fall Apart Cabinetry
Not sure what happened, but I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come in my house, everything falling apart after a year.

I signed up for a fitday account right around the time my site went down. So now that I once again have a place to share links, here’s where you can look at my progress over the last month.

Woot! Finally, I’m back in business! Lost some posts and quite a bit of hair, but I’ve rid myself of fuitadnet and their gnat-piss quality hosting. If you want to laugh and cry at the same time, check out their support forums. My email asking them to let me get the hell out of there pretty much sums it all up:
Well after 3 years of being a somewhat happy customer, you’ve forced me
to leave. First you migrate my site without emailing me or anything,
leaving me in the dark for a couple days wondering why my site is down.
After several ignored support tickets (still in there with
high/emergency status btw), several phone calls where I was brushed off
by someone saying my site would “be up in a couple hours,” I find out by
reading other users’ posts in the forums that my server was migrated and
the dns was taking really long to point to the right server.Fast forward to a week from when my site went down and the dns finally
resolves to the new server! But wait, my email is messed up. And my
databases are a month out of date. So I submit another ticket in the
billing system. And then email support. And then finally chat with
someone two times on live support where I’m told they have restored my
site with the latest backup. Well that backup is the same out of date
one they used when migrating. I assume that both times they just looked
at the new server and grabbed last night’s backup, which isn’t what I
needed. I need the stuff that didn’t get moved from the old server.I don’t want to waste any more of my time trying to deal with
incompetent techs though. I’m just going to take the stuff I have and
move it to my new host, lunarpages.com. So please unlock shutupbrain.net
for transfer and cancel my account.sincerely,
John Tobe
At least one good thing to come out of this is that I got an additional domain name: tobe.name. Right now shutupbrain.net and tobe.name point at the same place, but I like using tobe.name for my email as it sounds a bit more professional.
