Vacation in Canada, eh?
Well I’m going on vacation today! One week of rest and relaxation… and Hess’s. I’m going to some place called Marten River for a week with Francie’s family.
…I’ve made a huge mistake

After getting frustrated trying unsuccessfully to get my old ddr pad to work friday night we decided to decommission it and see how it ticks. I’ve uploaded some pics of what we found. Mats and Luda discussed making their own pad using the circuit board but I don’t see it happening so I’m thinking about getting a metal pad.
perhaps titanium

Moms everywhere rejoice! Chore wars is here to help you motivate your kids to do mundane, repetitive tasks for fun, just like their favorite MMRPGs! Or you can just trick your roommates ala Tom Sawyer.
what should I name my party…

I don’t know if it’s worth $15, but this looks like it’d be a nice place to put your cell phone when you come home.

Here’s a fun little game that helps explain where the line in the sand has been moved for students’ 1st amendment rights after the recent Supreme Court case. If you’re not familiar with the origins of this phrase, here’s the short version. Students at a high school in Alaska were dismissed from class to watch the Olympic torch go by. Frederick and some other students went off school grounds and displayed a banner with the vaguely offending phrase. Is Jesus doing bong hits? Are they supporting drug use in His name? Is there some baseball player named Bong who dedicates his home runs to Jesus? I don’t know what it’s supposed to mean exactly, but the principal knew exactly what it meant apparently as she ran over and seized the banner and suspended Frederick. Frederick appealed his suspension but the Superintendent only reduced it to the time already out of school and the school board upheld the suspension. Frederick filed a civil-rights lawsuit which made it all the way up to the Supreme Court, whose decision can be better understood by playing the flash game.
In all seriousness, however, this ruling really upsets me. A public school principal shouldn’t have control over kids when they aren’t on school grounds. I don’t buy this “school event” bull. Secondly, this banner is nonsensical and if you construe any meaning from it you’re taking it too seriously. It’s just a stupid kid’s provocative statement. And really, if high school kids can’t say something stupid, what can they say?
